It will be a great chance for people to connect with others and to give back to those in need. Please take a look at the texas info packet by clicking on the Missions tab above. Jr High Winter Camp change! February 2, 2010

Filed under: Jr. High, parents,Winter Camp — lnpcyouth @ 5:56 am

Due to the cost, we have decided to pull out of the Pondo Winter Camp and chose a different route. The dates will be the same, just subtract one day, so it will be from March 5th-6th. It will be an over-night’er at church.

Students are to have dinner at home then come to church on Friday (March 5th) at 8:00pm. We will play games, have snacks, hang out and go to bed for a good nights rest.

The next morning (March 6th), we will head up to Mountain High and snowboard the whole day and return to church at about 6:00pm then have pizza for dinner. Parents should pick up their student the same night at around 8:00pm

The cost will be $125 and it will include the lift ticket!!! Great Deal!!!! You just pay for rentals if needed and a few bucks for fast food on the way there and at the mountain.

If you already paid the $100 for the Pondo Camp, you only owe $25. If you also filled out the medical form for Pondo, no need to fill out another one.

$125 + Medical form due Monday, Feb 22nd at ROCK. Medical form can be found on the “Parent Form” section.

Bring…

- Sleeping bag/pillow

- Toiletries/hand towel

- Snow gear; pants, jacket, gloves, scarves, etc

- Chapstick

- Extra clothes

- Extra cash for the drive up and for lunch on the mountain

- Snowboard/ski/helmet/etc.

If you need to rent, we suggest renting at a local sporting good store before we leave. It will save you money and save us a lot of time.

Sunday School: Unlikely Hero’s! January 31, 2010

For Sunday School, we have been on this series called “Unlikely Hero’s”. When we watch TV, browse through magazines and books, listen to the radio and surf the web, the definition of “Hero” is somebody who saves the say, a person who is brave, courageous and fights for justice.

Well the Bible speaks of Hero’s as well, a person or a people group who does right for the sake of God but these hero’s that God chooses is nothing like batman, superman, wolverine or any of the typical heroic beings we all know. These hero’s were actually normal, sometimes lesser than normal, human beings with tons of baggage and much social stigma, yet God uses these people for God’s own glory.

For the last couple weeks, we have been talking about Rahab the prostitute. She abandoned her loyalty to her people, her king and the society she knew, all for the sake of saving God’s spies for the land. God chooses this prostitute, a person who is normally rejected by others because of her “profession,” and Rahab responds with gratitude and thanksgiving, she responds by putting her own life at risk in order to save these spies that were out on a mission for God.  Later in the books of Hebrews and in James, she was recognized by the writers to be faithful and justified.

If you want to know more, read Joshua chapter 2 and have a conversation with your child!

Relationships in high school January 26, 2010

Last night during FISH, we had a conversation about healthy relationships. I know many parents would agree that the best dating relationships for their son or daughter is one that is non-existent! I tend to hear advice such as, “you’re too young,” or “you don’t know anything about love yet,” and my favorite, “you need to focus on your school work.”

Much of that may be true but the fact is, dating relationships are happening and the best thing we can do as parents, family and youth leaders is to encourage healthy boundaries and healthy development of such relationships.

Last night our very own leader, Alissa Miller shared her thoughts based on biblical understand and experience on this matter. Two major points she stressed were;

1. Is the person you’re dating/will date enabling you to be, fully, the person God created you to be?

2. Are YOU allowing the person you date/will date to be fully the person God has created he/she to be?

Basically, when you are in a “healthy” dating relationship, you will be challenged to live out your calling, first as a follower of Christ, then as someone called to serve and sacrifice for others.

NEXT WEEK, we will continue this conversation in a very interactive way. There will be a 5 minute re-cap, followed by break out groups so students can share their own thought with their peers.

Please encourage your children to be a part of this important dialogue!
